Clayface is not a single character, but rather a mantle held by multiple villains in the DC Comics universe, primarily associated with Batman. Each iteration possesses the ability to alter their physical form, mimicking appearances and morphing into various shapes and sizes.

The original Clayface was Basil Karlo, a disgruntled actor driven mad by the remake of a classic horror film he starred in. He used a protoplasmic compound to gain shapeshifting abilities and sought revenge on the cast and crew.

Subsequent versions of Clayface, such as Matt Hagen, gained their powers through accidental exposure to radioactive mud. They often utilize their abilities for criminal purposes, posing significant challenges to Batman due to their unpredictable nature and ever-changing appearances.

Clayface's powers extend beyond simple disguise. They can increase their size, create weapons and armor from their own bodies, and even liquefy themselves to escape capture. Their unstable physiology often makes them vulnerable to specific chemicals or temperature extremes.
